TEACHING WITH NAGARI
An extension of the Nagari Short Film Competition, the Nagari Education Program uses film as a
learning resource to help students engage with pressing urban issues while also supporting
the capacity-building efforts of local municipal bodies.
Why Use Nagari Films as an Educational Resource?
Nagari films bring lived experiences of urban India into conversations about cities, making complex urban issues more accessible and grounded in real stories.
The films can be used as case studies, discussion prompts or learning resources in training programmes, workshops, classrooms and professional discussions. They help practitioners, policymakers and students explore how policies, infrastructure and urban systems are experienced by different communities. They bring together different perspectives and create space to question existing approaches to urban development and governance.
The program is designed around two complementary approaches. The first integrates films into academic curricula, enabling students and educators to explore urban challenges through discussion and analysis. The second supports practitioners by incorporating films into training and capacity-building modules for local government and municipal institutions.

GROUNDED REALITIES
Using Nagari films as case studies for introducing everyone to the lived realities of Indian cities and the social, economic, and planning challenges they face everyday.
