TEACHING WITH NAGARI
ACADEMIC
Undergraduate and Graduate Students :
Architecture, Urban Design and Urban Planning
“India will be 50 per cent urban shortly after the middle of the 21st century.”
This growth will need professionals who can think critically and innovate radically, while sensitively responding to local, global, and environmental challenges.
This module of the Nagari Education Program develops courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students of architecture and urban design, using films as a way to explore the social and spatial realities of Indian cities.
Through film, students engage with current urban issues, planning challenges, and the ways in which different communities experience and shape the built environment. The module encourages students to:
- Identify and explore urban issues in Indian cities through film.
- Examine how different social and economic groups experience and engage with the city.
- Understand the socio-political factors that shape cities at a local scale.
- Reflect on the moral and ethical questions surrounding urban development.
- Recognise opportunities and challenges related to development and redevelopment.
- Explore policies and programmes that respond to urban issues.
MODULE STRUCTURE
The theme will be catered to the program of the course. CCF will be working closely with the faculty to develop a course that is specific to the curriculum. This will bring in more specificity to the module. e.g. Mobility theme for students pursuing Master’s in Transport Design.

Followed by a detailed discussion about learnings and takeaways from the curated films. This will introduce questions like: What issues are highlighted, why are these issues important, whether professionals can make a difference, and how can one contribute, etc.
4. Readings and Research
A set of readings and case study materials may be provided to the participants to help them gain a more comprehensive and resourceful understanding of the theme discussed.
